LoL WC 2023: G2 vs. Gen.G to advance to the quarterfinals

G2 Esports outplayed China's Weibo Gaming in the second round of the 2023 LoL World Championship and are now just one win away from reaching the tournament finals. In another clash of 2-0 teams, we'll see the LPL derby between JD Gaming and LNG Esports.

The second day of "Worlds" brought us several clashes between teams from the same leagues, among which the clash between Gen.G and T1 stands out, and among the other matches, the most exciting was the one between G2 and Weibo Gaming, in which we saw everything you could wish for within one party.

At the start of the second round, LCS champion NRG easily defeated Team Liquid, who will have to fight for survival tomorrow. It doesn't help Liquid that they still have the current world champion Pyosik in their ranks, and for now they are definitely one of the teams that showed the least in the tournament.

The remaining LCS representative Cloud9 didn't have a good time against LNG Esports, and once again Scout was unstoppable on Azir (7-1-4) with a great Tarzan play on Lee Sin. LNG was a much better team, and tomorrow they will face perhaps the ultimate challenge in the form of the Chinese champions JD Gaming.

MAD Lions handily defeated BDS, mostly thanks to a massive jungle gap that lasted throughout the match. Elyoya built an early advantage on Belveth while Sheo was completely invisible on Vi, constantly falling behind in levels. The Lions used that to put pressure all over the map which gave them the win after 30 minutes of play.

Fnatic took advantage of a favorable draw to overcome one of the easiest main stage rivals, Vietnam's GAM, and avoid being in the fight for survival after only day two.

Gen.G showed why he is the champion of Korea by recording a dominant win against T1. The game started well for T1 and Faker, while Chovy struggled on Akali early on. T1 thus gained an advantage, but Gen.G managed to come back through excellent team fights and in the end in 29 minutes registered a convincing 14-6 victory.

The match of the day definitely turned out to be a duel between G2 and Weibo Gaming, in which G2 made a comeback from a whopping 10,000 gold deficit to claim victory. The match started well for G2 who matched their opponent in the early stages of the game, but then one mistake by Baron cost them dearly. G2 tried a quick kill on Baron, but instead Weibo swept them, taking Baron, followed by the Dragon Soul buff shortly after.

At a crucial moment, G2 manages to find two kills on the mid and start a spectacular turnaround, which they mostly achieved by using excellent group fights to fight for Elder and with him penetrate the base of the Chinese team all the way to the nexus.

Weibo managed to defend itself even though it looked as if G2 would end the game with one powerful rush, but the joy of the defense did not last long and already in the next big battle G2 won.

After that we watched the clash between JD and Bilibili Gaming in which JDG once again justified the title of one of the most dangerous teams in the tournament by registering a quick victory in 25 minutes of the game, and in the end KT Rolster easily defeated Dplus KIA who must win all three next matches if they want to to the quarterfinals.
