Former World Champion Li "Flandre" Xuanjun has been officially unveiled as the new top laner for China's reigning champion and MSI champion JD Gaming.
Flandre began his rich career at Snake Esports where he spent six and a half years (if we count the period when they changed their name to LNG Esports), and finally arrived at EDward Gaming the year before last, with whom he becomes the world champion in 2021 and brings EDG- to the historic first title of the biggest LoL competition. In the same year, he previously lifted the LPL Champions Cup.
Interestingly, he became the first top laner in recent years to win the World Championship without being from South Korea, ending the dominance of Korean top laners.
Last year, EDG had significantly worse results in the spring and summer season, but they managed to make it through the playoffs for WC 2022 and reach the competition, where they lost 2-3 to eventual champions DRX in the quarterfinals.
Flandre left EDG after that and did not compete this year. He will have an extremely difficult task to fill the void left by the departure of Bai "369" Jiahao, the JDG star who decided he no longer wanted to play for the team.
Now all that remains is to see who JDG will bring to the mid, after which we will know the full composition of the LPL champions for next year.
