The number of entrants to the big CS2 tournament in Abu Dhabi has been halved after the group stage saw favorites like Complexity, Eternal Fire and Heroic fall.
Heroic and Complexity are the two highest ranked teams in the tournament along with Astralis, also the only three teams from the top 10 that came to the competition. And while Heroic struggled from the very start, Complexity is perhaps the biggest tragedy of the competition, because it recorded both victories on the first day of the tournament, only to lose three consecutive matches and miss the playoffs.
On the other hand, the most surprising was FURIA, which started with a defeat against the BIG team, but after that they triumphed in all matches and took the first place in the B group, which brought them a direct placement in the semi-finals.
In addition to them, BetBoom, who, like FURIA, registered four victories, and Fnatic also passed from group B. In addition to BIG and Complexity, Eternal Fire was also eliminated from group B, and with a 0-3 start, they were quickly left with no theoretical chance of passing.
In the A group, the first place was taken by the team TheMongolz, who only lost to Astralis in the fifth round, ending their great streak of 10 consecutive victories. The second place in the group was taken by Ninjas in Pajamas, who exceeded all expectations with their new line-up, and Heroic, ENCE and Sashi bid farewell to the tournament.
BetBoom and Astralis, or NiP and Fnatic, are meeting in the quarter-final matches today.
