Grayhound shuts down

The Australian esports scene has suffered another major blow, after the Grayhound organization issued an official announcement this morning that they are going out of business.

Australia's last professional CS2 organization is closing its doors after failing to qualify for the PGL Copenhagen Major, where they lost the deciding match to qualify for the Major against Chinese team Lynn Vision.

Namely, according to the comments of people familiar with the Australian CS scene, Grayhound has not even functioned as an esports organization for a long time, but their CS2 team was financed exclusively from the pocket of the founder and owner William Gray, a great lover of esports who kept the dream of Australian CS alive. .

The team was hoping for a placement at the Major, which would bring them a potentially huge amount of money through the sale of stickers with team logos and players' names, and since that didn't happen, the whole project was shut down.

Founded in 2017, Grayhound sold their team in 2019 to the Renegades, and are returning to the scene in 2022 by taking over the team from the bankrupt ORDER organization.

Australia's CS:GO, now CS2 scene, has gone through a massive crisis from which it seems they will never recover, with teams running out of sponsors and organizations one after the other, and Grayhound being the only partial bright spot in the region.

With its demise begs the question of whether there is any hope of CS2 esports surviving in Australia, but without any cash flow and the ability to compete professionally and earn a living from esports, it's hard to see young gamers having the desire and motivation to head into the waters of competitive CS2.

Team captain Christopher "dexter" Nong stated that the team will stay together for now, at least for IEM Chengdu, ESL Pro League and IEM Dallas, and that he would like interested parties to contact him for cooperation.
