The Mongolian team defeated Astralis in the big derby to reach their second consecutive final, Ninjas in Pajamas defeated the FURIA team to reach their first title fight of the year.
The match between The MongolZ and Astralis, which came to the tournament perhaps as the main favorite, overshadowed all others in the tournament so far. Both teams unexpectedly won the opponent's picks, The Mongolz won 13-7 on Nuke, and then Astralis took Mirage 13-6.
Chaos ensued on the decisive Ancient map resulting in three overtimes for The MongolZ to win 22-19 at the end. The hero of the team was Usukhbayar '910' Banzragch who was unstoppable with the sniper, and completely overshadowed his rival, the legendary Nicolai "virgin" Reedtz who was the lowest rated player in Astralis on the third map.
In the end, Astralis had to settle for a fourth consecutive top 4 finish, while The Mongolz are now just one win away from two tied trophies.
In the second semi-final, Ninjas in Pajamas overpowered the Brazilians with two 13-7 victories, over Ancient and Nuke. Artem "r1nkle" Moroz, who has been a central figure in his team's success throughout the tournament, is once again in the spotlight, and now it remains to be seen if he can lead them to victory against the truly excellent The MongolZ, who enter the finals as favorites.
