G2 Esports has just confirmed that CS superstar Nikola "NiKo" Kovac is staying with the team.
Although multiple sources have reported that NiKo has reached a verbal agreement with the Falcons and will be joining them, it appears that there was a last-minute change of heart and G2 and NiKo were able to reach an agreement to remain on the team.
For now, we can still only guess what exactly happened and how far the negotiations that took place really progressed. Various unreliable theories are circulating on social media, from NiKo using the Falcons' offer to negotiate an even better deal with G2, to the deal falling through because the Falcons failed to secure trans Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov.
The only thing we have at the moment is the statement of G2 manager Petar "pec" Marković for HLTV in which he noted that "as he said before, NiKo is a unique player who would be almost impossible to replace with a player of the same caliber, which is why he is delighted to be able to to confirm that an agreement has been reached with Nikola and that he will remain with G2".
Peca then added that "retaining a key player in winning the trophy this year is extremely important and that the entire G2 is looking forward to seeing what kind of success awaits them in the near future."
