Metzport qualified for the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown 2024 after defeating Apex 2-1 in the final of the RES Western European Masters.
The Swedish team came into the tournament as one of the underdogs, but in the end they managed to get a precious ticket to the Showdown and the opportunity to play in the 2024 BLAST Premier Spring Finals.
In a tournament that featured teams like FURIA, Apex and Fnatic, it was expected that one of these big names would triumph, but two of the three teams on the list of favorites did not even make it to the playoffs.
Fnatic opened the tournament with a convincing 13-2 win against Endpoint which meant they had two chances to advance to the semi-finals. They were first defeated by Sprout 13-10, and then in the decisive match to advance, they lost 9-13 to 3DMAX.
It was Metzport who defeated the Brazilians in Group B, both times with an identical 13-5 score, first at the start of the tournament, and then in the match for second place.
Metizport lost the first map in the semi-finals against the Sprout team, who took the lead 13-11 with a victory on Inferna, taking advantage of the fact that the rivals were forced to play the first map with a change, but the Swedes continued to completely dominate the server and took two convincing victories (13-6 Mirage , 13-3 Vertigo).
Meanwhile, Apex defeated 3DMAX 2-0 and scheduled a rematch for the first place in Group A.
Metzport opened the finals fiercely on their Mirage map where they had a 10-2 lead at halftime, and the final score was 13-6. Ancient was much more uncertain, after a 6-6 half time Apex was able to triumph in the last round of the regular part of the map and level the overall score with a 13-11 victory.
Metzport was the more dominant team in the decisive Inferno where they took an 8-4 lead with excellent defense and then continued in a strong rhythm for a 13-6 victory and first place in the BLAST Showdown qualifiers.
With this, 15 of the 16 participants of the Showdown tournament are now known, all that remains is the RES Eastern European Masters qualifications, in which Monte and Aurora play the role of favorites.
