9z made a big surprise with victories against teams MOUZ and Liquid, and with Vitality became the first team to reach the finals of the IEM Dallas 2024 tournament. A weakened G2 started off with a win, but they couldn't stop Vitality's onslaught.
G2 and Falcons played a match on Anubis, and Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov was once again in the spotlight with 27 frags, 123 damage per round and a 1.79 rating. He allowed G2 to take a 7-5 lead at halftime, and then to hold on to that lead in an uncertain ending for a 13-10 win.
Vitality struggled against Monte in the first round and overcame a 3-9 halftime deficit to win 16-12 after extra time, but they were much more prepared against G2. On Dust2, they won 13-6, while on the map Anubis they gave one less round to their opponent and ended the match with 13-5.
G2 will now play another derby for MOUZ in the fight for the survival of Group A.
In the second part of the draw, 9z made the first big surprise with a 13-9 victory against the best team in the world according to the HLTV ranking. In the American derby, Liquid defeated Complexty 13-6, but they could not take advantage of the favorable outcome of the second match and reach the playoffs. They lost Nuke 13-16 against 9z, bounced back with a 13-9 win on Anubis, then lost the decider to Dust2 11-13.
Liquid will play against Falcons for survival, and then the winner of that match will play against the better of the duel G2 - MOUZ for placement in the playoffs.
There were no surprises in Group A in the first round. Spirit overcame FlyQuest 13-1 and set up a new duel with Na'Vi who beat BIG 13-9. FaZe defeated M80 with a score of 13-6, while in the group B derby, Virtus.pro won a convincing 13-4 against the Heroic team.
