The first day of the Roobet Cup 2023 brought us four exciting matches, and the most attention was attracted by Heroic, who played with unexpected changes in the team, as well as a fierce clash between the Eternal Fire and FURIA teams.
We wrote about the scandal that happened to Heroic in more detail in this article, and just an hour after it was revealed what was happening inside the team itself and why the Danes will have to perform with two changes, we watched them on the server against the unpleasant Aurora.
Heroic struggled on the Overpass map, which was to be expected, but even so, they succumbed only after overtime, with a score of 14-16. Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen had a great debut for Heroic on the first map with 29 frags, the most total on the server.
Already at Nuke Heroic, he looked better, and in addition to the standard first-team player Rene "TeSeS" Madsen, William "sirah" Kjaergsaard, one of the two reinforcements from the MOUZ academy, also stood out.
Heroic took a 13-9 victory on the opponent's Nuke pick, and Mirage decided the winner. The teams were tied at halftime, but Heroic dominated the T side in the second half of the game, taking seven of nine rounds down the stretch for a 13-8 triumph.
FURIA and Eternal Fire played a match where we saw a lot of mistakes on both sides, but also some great individual moves. It looked like both teams were still getting used to CS2 and couldn't immediately find the consistency they were used to. FURIA had a big 9-2 lead on their Ancient pick map, but they managed to drop it and the Turkish team went to overtime where they won 16-13.
In the sequel, FURIA overpowered EF on Vertigo, Ismailcan "XANTARES" Dortkardes who exploded on the first map with 33 frags was invisible on Vertigo with only seven frags, and without the star team FURIA takes a convincing 13-4 victory.
Mirage decided the winner, and we were denied overtime on him after one of, if not the biggest mistakes in competitive CS2 we've seen to date. They had the Eternal Fire players set up a bomb in a 5v3 situation and it looked like they were going to tie it up at 12-12, but a series of mistakes led to FURIA being able to defuse the bomb and take the win.
In Group B, Movistar Riders won by defeating 9z Team 2-1 (7-13 Nuke, 13-9 Ancient, 13-11 Inferno) and Virtus.pro, which defeated Team Spirit by the same score (Ancient 7-13, Overpass 13-4, Mirage 13-9).
