G2 Esports came a step closer to the playoffs in Cologne by defeating Astralis 2-1 in the second round of the lower bracket, and what is particularly interesting is the fact that they once again triumphed on one of the maps with a score of 13-1.
Where they left off with Spirit, they picked up with Astralis. Magical G2 destroyed Astralis on Dust2, taking their pick 13-1. The map will especially be remembered for Victor "Staehr" Staehr having zero frags until the last round, when he took two consolation frags, finishing the map with a record low 0.15 rating.
Astralis players simply couldn't match the superior opponent, nothing was going their way, which G2 knew how to use in the best possible way and quickly took a 1-0 lead.
The way Astralis bounced back after that was commendable, taking what seemed to be a slightly more relaxed approach to G2's Mirage map, going from 4-8 at half-time to a 13-10 victory that gave them hope that they still had a chance of an epic turnaround .
However, G2 seemed to kick into fifth gear again on the decisive Ancient map, they completely dominated the game and did not allow the opponent to question anything. Astralis only managed to take three rounds on the CT side in the first half, only for G2 to take all the remaining rounds down the stretch for a big 13-3. Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa marked the Ancient with 22 frags, 135.2 damage per round and a 2.33 rating, showing once again that G2 has indeed brought a huge boost for the rest of the season.
Tomorrow, G2 will fight for a place in the playoffs against the winner of TheMongolz - paiN Gaming match.
