G2 Esports managed to advance to the final stage of the ESL Pro League after winning an extremely exciting match against M80, a match in which we saw one of the best maps played this year.
The American team exceeded all expectations and once again demonstrated that it is no coincidence why they are currently the best team in the NA region, but luckily for G2 fans, they were stopped this time.
G2 struggled from the very start of the tournament where they defeated TYLOO with a lot of effort, only to suffer a convincing defeat against The MongolZ in the fight for the playoffs. A routine victory against M80 in the loser's bracket was expected after that, but instead M80 managed to triumph with a convincing 13-2 on the Ancient map at the start of the match, and three overtimes on the decisive Vertigo.
Due to the expansion of the ESL Pro League playoff format, teams had one more chance to compete in the final playoff for the fourth place that leads to the continuation of the tournament, and G2 had to start by knocking out the Falcons, another team that failed in the competition. They managed to do that, which scheduled a rematch with M80 in the match that put an end to the action in the B group.
This time Ancient was completely different, both teams gave their maximum with a handful of good moves, and as in the previous map that the teams played, we saw three overtimes. M80 was more specific, but everything changed when, at 18-19, Nikola "NiKo" Kovač broke away, one shot away from making the so-called Ace (all five frags) in two consecutive rounds.
