FaZe won the first major CS2 LAN tournament by winning a spectacular match against Complexity, which they overcame only after overtime on the third decisive map, making CS2 esports history.
Although they started the competition with a defeat against GamerLegion in the first round of the winner's play-off of Group A, FaZe managed to recover and already at the start of the loser's play-off, they kicked Vitality out of the tournament, and then Na'Vi, and finally with a victory over Complexity they put an end to a really great tournament in Sydney.
The finals began on the Overpass map chosen by Complexity. FaZe managed to get a 7-5 advantage on the CT side, then they increased it by winning the pistol round at the start of the second half, but Complexity managed to stabilize and take a 13-11 victory with excellent defense.
After that we watched Nuke, where the fight flared up even more giving us a great prelude to the third map. FaZe was able to press Complexity to take an 8-4 lead on the T side, Complexity fought back down the stretch, but FaZe was able to stop them from making a turnaround and went 13-10 to tie the score on aggregate.
FaZe opened with a forceful Ancient, and when they took a 10-3 lead at the start of the second half it seemed as if we had reached the end of the finals. Complexity manages to get a crucial "force bye" in that round where they were forced to buy weapons with very poor economy, and from there they completely turn the momentum in their favor.
The audience enthusiastically welcomed the overtimes, and it turned out to be the first of the two that we watched on the Ancient map. After the teams split three rounds in the first, FaZe manages to take a 3-0 lead in the second overtime, Complexity takes one round after switching sides, but FaZe manages to prevent them from making a complete turnaround and ends the finals with a 19-16 score.
FaZe won the $100,000 top prize and a ticket to IEM Katowice 2024 with their win in Sydney.
The title of MVP player of the tournament went to Havard "rain" Nygaard, who himself stated that CS2 fits him well and that he is doing great in this version of the game, which could be seen during the entire course of the competition.
