G2 will have to fight through the loser's bracket for the remainder of the tournament, after Aurora defeated them 2-0 in the battle for the winner's bracket final.
G2 Esports' woes in the CCT 5 tournament continue, after a relatively lackluster performance in wins against Flux and Sprout, they were finally stopped by the pesky Russian team Aurora who were a much better rival on both maps.
The pick/ban phase seemed to go well for G2 after Ancient and Nuke were picked, with Inferno remaining as a potentially decisive map, but even favorable maps didn't mean much to the final outcome of the matchup.
G2 continued to provide weaker games in the pistol rounds allowing opponents to gain an early advantage, which Aurora knew how to take advantage of. They took a quick lead on the Ancient map, and all G2 could do was cut the deficit to four rounds by the end of the half. In the continuation, after losing the pistol, Aurora gets an eco round and thus announces the end of the first map, which they won with a total score of 13-6.
On Nuke, Aurora completely dominated playing the CT side, taking 10 of the first 11 rounds, and all G2 managed to do was take one more consolation round by halftime. Aurora wins the next pistol round and ties two more rounds for a convincing 13-2.
To stay in the tournament, G2 will play against Guild Eagles (ex Bad News Eagles) in the big Balkan derby, while Aurora will play the winner of the BIG - 9Pandas match in the next round.
